Frequently Asked Questions!

1) What Kind of wood do you use?

I use almost exclusively cedar from Manitoulin Island it gives the nicest finish and lasts the longest.

2) Will it crack?

Yes all carvings are done from whole logs and as the wood dries it shrinks causing cracking sealing it will help but not entirely prevent cracking.

I use Helmsman Spar varnish which is a marine varnish that really makes the carving look great, I always put 3 coats on the carving

4) You seem to run your chain loose.

I use Cannon carving bars and the tips of the bars do not have a sprocket just harened metal so the chain has to run loose so when the bar heats up it doesnt bind the chain.
